Tesla’s innovative approach to vehicle design extends beyond just electric powertrains. One such feature is its valet mode, which restricts certain vehicle functions for security and safety when someone else is driving your car. Here’s how to activate it.
Engaging Valet Mode
To engage valet mode, follow these steps:
1. Tap ‘Controls’ on the bottom left of the touchscreen.
2. Select ‘Safety & Security’.
3. Then tap ‘Valet Mode’.
4. You will be prompted to create a 4-digit PIN. Enter your desired PIN and press ‘Enable’.
Remember that PIN, as you’ll need it to disable valet mode.
What Valet Mode Does
When enabled, Valet Mode limits the Tesla’s speed and acceleration. It also disables Autopilot and Summon features, locks the glove box and frunk, hides personal data (like addresses in your navigation system), and restricts access to settings.
Disabling Valet Mode
To disable valet mode:
1. Tap ‘Controls’ on the bottom left of the touchscreen again.
2. Select ‘Safety & Security’.
3. Then tap ‘Valet Mode’.
4. Enter your 4-digit PIN and press ‘Disable’.
If you forget your PIN, you’ll have to contact Tesla Support for assistance.
