How To Fix Dog Scratches On Painted Door

When you bring your dog over to meet your new roommate, you may not have given much thought to the fact that his fur will likely leave scratches and dents in your new paint. But what can you do about it? Luckily, there are a few things you can do to get the scratches and dents out without having to hire a professional. In this blog post, we’ll outline some of the most effective methods for fixing dog scratches on painted surfaces.

Clean the Area

If you’ve ever had to clean up dog scratches on a painted door, you know that it’s not an easy task. The paint is often too dry and hard to remove, and the scratches themselves are difficult to see. Here are five tips for cleaning up dog scratches on a painted door:

1. Start by using a mild soap or detergent solution to wet the area around the scratch. Be sure to work around the edges of the scratch so that you can get all of the dirt and debris off the surface.

2. Remove any excess water with a cloth or paper towel, then apply a coat of rust-oleum scratch repair primer in desired color. Allow primer to dry completely before painting.

3. Apply your desired paint color over primer, being sure to smooth out any areas that were missed during application. Once paint is fully dry, lightly sand with #000 grit sandpaper if needed.

4. To finish, use a sealant such as polyurethane or varnish and allow time for it to fully dry before using your door again

Apply a Pet-Safe Scratch Remover

If your dog scratches your door with his nails, use a pet-safe scratch remover. Make a small scratch on the door with your nail, then apply the remover to the scratch. Rub it in until the paint is gone and the scratch is filled in. Use a clean cloth to wipe off any residue.

Let It Dry

The best way to fix dog scratches on a painted door is to use a product called “Paint Scratcher.” This is a powder that you add to the scratch and then let dry. Once it’s dry, use a hairdryer to heat up the scratch and make the paint come off. Be sure to wear gloves and avoid getting any of the paint on your hands or clothing.

Repeat As Necessary

If your dog scratches the paint on your door, there are a few things you can do to fix the damage.

The first step is to wash the area with soapy water and a brush. This will remove any dirt or dried sweat from the surface.

Next, use a coat of clear sealant or paint protection spray to cover the scratch. Be sure to apply it in a thick layer, and then wait several minutes for it to dry before proceeding.

Finally, use a fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out the finish of the sealant or paint. Use light pressure when sanding; you don’t want to remove too much of the finish.
