With all the new technology that surrounds us, it’s no surprise that our appliances are getting smarter. In fact, many devices now come with features that allow you to reset them if they malfunction. This means that if your power mirror stops folding in half, you can simply reset it and it will work as normal again. If you’ve ever had this problem and didn’t know how to fix it, this blog post is for you. In it, we will walk you through the simple steps necessary to reset your power mirror.
Verify That The Power Is Off
If you are having trouble resetting the power mirror, try following these steps: 1. Turn off the car and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
2. Open the driver’s door and look for a switch on the side of the mirror near the hinge. If there is no switch, flip up or down a cover on the back of the mirror to reveal one.
3. Toggle OFF (counter-clockwise) or ON (clockwise) the power switch to verify that it has changed from “OFF” to “ON.”
4. Close and re-plug in your car’s electrical outlet, then turn on your car. The power should now be working properly in your mirror!
Open Your Doors
If your power folding mirror isn’t working, there are a few things you can do to try and fix the problem. First, check to see if the power is actually turned on at the mirror. If it’s not, you’ll need to find the reset button and press it. Depending on the model of mirror, this may be located on the frame or on the backside of the mirror. Once you’ve reset the power, you may still need to reset the display settings on your mirror. Again, this will vary depending on the model of mirror. If all of these steps fail to fix the issue, it may be time to replace your mirror.
Disconnect All Electronics
If you are experiencing problems with your power folding mirrors, disconnecting all electronic devices may solve the problem. Grasp the mirror on each side and pull it out from the vehicle. Disconnect any wires that are connected to the mirror. Reconnect the wiring if necessary. Push the mirror back into place and verify that it works properly.
Remove the Mirror
If your mirror is acting up, there are a few steps you can take to try and fix the issue. First, unplug the mirror from the power source and remove it from its housing. If resetting the mirror doesn’t work, you may need to replace it.
If resetting the mirror still doesn’t work, there could be a problem with the wiring or with the mirror itself. In this case, you’ll likely need to replace both the mirror and the wiring.
Reconnect All Electronics
If your mirrors get stuck in the down position or don’t fold correctly, you can reset them using a power switch. This procedure is for vehicles with power folding mirrors. Note: This will not work on manual-folding mirrors.
1) Disconnect all connectors from the mirror mechanism (either by removal of screws, or disconnecting wire harnesses).
2) Move the mirror up and down to test it. If it doesn’t move freely, check that the pin that engages the gear box is tight and not stripped.
3) Open the hood and locate the power switch. It is usually a single pole/single throw switch with a red cover.
4) Unplug the switch from its connector and remove the red cover. On some switches, there may be two small screws that need to be removed before the cover can be removed (on others, just pull offward).
5) Grasp both ends of the spring and pull gently until it snaps back into place (it should take about 3-5 pulls). If it requires more force than that, replace the spring.
6) Install the new spring by placing one end over one of the posts on top of switch housing and pushing downward until it snaps into place (again, it should only require 3-5 pushes). Replace the switch cover and screw in place. Test your mirror operation now!
Replace the Mirror
A broken power folding mirror can be frustrating, but fortunately it is an easy problem to fix. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver and some simple steps.
Step One: remove the screws that attach the mirror housing to the doorjamb.
Step Two: tilt the mirror so that the hinges are facing down, then remove the hinges from the mirror casing.
Step Three: reattach the new hinges to the mirror casing and screw them in place.
Step Four: replace the screws that you removed in Step One and tighten them using a Phillips screwdriver.
