If you’re like most drivers, you probably use your rear view mirror to check behind you before you turn. But did you know that the onstar mirror built into many cars is actually a copyrighted device and can’t be removed without infringing on the company’s copyright? This means that if you want to remove your onstar mirror and replace it with something more stylish or functional, you may need to invest in a custom mirror made specifically for your car. Fortunately, this process is relatively simple and can be done by anyone with some DIY skills. ###

Once these screws are removed, gently pull the mirror out of its housing. Next, use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the Mirror Shield from the mirror itself. Finally, wash and dry the mirror and shield before reinstalling them into their respective housings.
Replace the Mirror
If you’re unhappy with the rear view mirror that comes standard on your GM car, there are a few ways to replace it. The first option is to buy an aftermarket mirror that will fit your car. Another option is to remove the existing mirror and install a new one in its place. Here’s how to do it:
1) Open the car door and remove the rearview mirror by unscrewing the four screws at the base.
2) If you’ve bought an aftermarket mirror, put it in place while holding onto the mounting bracket. If you’re replacing the mirror with one from your own vehicle, just snap it into place.
3) Replace the screws and reattach the mirror to the bracket.
