Have you ever noticed how a lot of things have one-size-fits-all solutions? That’s usually because the thing being solved is actually a pretty common problem. With that in mind, we wanted to share with you a simple way to remove the heater hose connector without any tools—assuming you have a standard screwdriver. Here’s how it works: First, unscrew the two screws on the side of the connector. Then, pull up on the connector and it will come off. If there are any clips attached, remove them first. You’re now free to use your screwdriver to fix the connector if necessary.
What You’ll Need
If your heater hose connector has come loose, you can easily remove it without any tools by using a few simple steps. This procedure is best done while the car is warm, so the adhesive will be more pliable. Here’s what you’ll need:
-An adjustable wrench
-a sturdy piece of wood or a bucket
-a rag
-clean water
1. Start by removing the cap on the end of the heater hose connector. You may need to use a wrench to do this. Be sure to use caution, as the connector can be hot.
2. Apply gentle pressure with your fingers to the sides of the connector, and slowly twist it counterclockwise until it unscrews from the heat exchanger. Gently pull it off of the heat exchanger.
3. Clean any adhesive residue off of the heat exchanger with clean water. Make sure to dry it off completely before reinstalling the connector onto the heat exchanger!

2. Open the hood and locate the drainage cap on the right side of the engine block.
3. Lift up the drain plug and allow water to run out of the car.
4. Loosen the heater hose connector clamp by pressing down on one end and rotating it counterclockwise (as seen in photo).
5. Release the clamp and pull out the connector (photo).
Tips for Removing Heater Hose Connectors Easily
If you have a heater hose connector that is frozen on, or difficult to remove, there are several tips that may help. First, warm up the connector by running the engine and heater on full blast for about five minutes. This will loosen the connector and make it easier to remove. Second, use a blunt object like a screwdriver to pry off the connector from the pipe. Third, use a wrench to twist and pull the connector off of the pipe. Finally, use a hose clamp to hold the connector in place while you unscrew it from the pipe.
