Step One: Inspect the spark plug socket to make sure it’s clean and free of debris. If there is any debris, use the socket wrench to remove it.
Step Two: Remove the screws that hold the spark plug in place. Be careful not to lose them – you’ll need them later.
Step Three: Loosen the two wires that attach to the spark plug. The black wire is usually on the left and the brown/yellow wire is usually on the right. Disconnect both wires, being careful not to pinch them between your fingers. Keep the wires separated so they don’t short out when you replace the spark plug.

How to Remove a Spark Plug Wire

If you don’t have a wrench, you can use a screwdriver. Simply loosen the wires around the sparkplug until it comes out. Once it’s out, reattach the new spark plug wire and tighten up the screws.

To remove a spark plug wire, use a spark plug socket and ratchet. First remove the wire clip from the end of the wire. Twist the wire enough to break it away from the terminal. Pull the wire out of the terminal.
